The PS/IS 217 PTA hosts multiple events yearly to celebrate and support our school. One of the best ways to engage with the school community is by volunteering to help us run these events. The success of these events depends largely on 217 parents and caregivers who generously share their time and talents.

First PTA Meeting and Welcome Breakfast - September 11, 2025
Welcome back to school! Grab a pastry and coffee or tea, and reconnect with the PS/IS 217 community. This is also the first PTA meeting of the year where we'll share our vision for the year, the events and committees that need support, and more. Please stop by to shop Spirit Store gear, sign up for volunteer opportunities and subscribe to Hawks' Happenings, the official newsletter of the PTA.
Mets Game - September 21, 2025
Come to Citi Field with us and cheer on the Amazin’ Mets. It's time for some Back to School Baseball!
Monster Bash - October 24, 2025

PS/IS 217 Hawks Hustle Fun Run - November 15, 2025
Join the Roosevelt Island community for a fun run - a 5K around the Island - with shorter options for our younger runners!
Talent Show - December 6, 2025
The annual talent show is a beloved free community event to celebrate our amazing talented students! Come for the entertainment and stay for the snacks at concessions. To volunteer or for more information - contact psis217info@gmail.com
Read-a-thon - January 12 - 30, 2026
The Read-a-thon raises money for our school's PTA while encouraging and rewarding students for reading. With numerous opportunities for students to win prizes, this event gets students involved and excited about books and other reading materials. Scholastic Book Fair - January 26-30, 2026
Students get a chance to discover new books and related merchandise from Scholastic. Each class will get a shopping session during the school day. Set up a virtual credit card (we’ll send you plenty of information on how to do this) or send your kid with cash… so they can also practice those math skills too! Look for an email to sign up to volunteer when your child's class is scheduled to shop.
International Dinner - March 28, 2026
Enjoy cuisine from all over the world prepared by families in our diverse school community during this community favorite event. Children are also treated to a variety of activities in the gymnasium. To volunteer, donate or for more information - contact team217info@gmail.com
Spring Auction - May 7, 2026
Come have some hors d'oeuvres and a glass of wine while you bid on amazing items and extraordinary experiences while supporting PS/IS 217 in the last of the year’s major events!
Grab items such as a weekend in the Hamptons, a personal tour of the Whitney Conservation Labs, a Barnes & Noble trip with Ms. O’Hagan, get a new look with a salon visit or a Spotify Premium Membership, PLUS many more items including local classes and camps (ones you would buy anyway!) at a DEEP DISCOUNT! Parents and teachers donate a fantastic array of goods and services. Can’t make it? Form a team with other parents and one of you can attend & do the bidding.
